New Simple Measures™ social enterprise launched to support carers with optimum hydration care

A not for profit social enterprise has been established in October 2016 to support the scale up and ongoing development of the Simple Measures hydration care support system.  The system has been developed by a frontline nurse, Naomi Campbell (RN), as a Simple,  consistent  means for carers everywhere to identify risk of dehydration based on the level of support needed to drink an optimum amount.  As well as a basic requirement for life and proper care, hydration is enshrined in CQC regulation and Francis Report recommendations.

Naomi says" the positive response from those who I have talked about embarking on this exciting next stage in the Simple Measures journey is fantastic, after many years of developing the approach we will now really be able to have an impact on basic care.  I very much appreciate the opportunity I have been given by my key funder and the efforts of the management team involved as well as the support network we have grown locally in Cornwall, nationally and overseas."

Simple Measures Chairman Nick Buckland explains "as long time supporters of Naomi whose inspiring, entrepreneurial energy devoted to preventing avoidable dehydration has been recognised many times with many awards and publications.    We are especially grateful for the on-going support from NHS Innovations Southwest. A community interest not for profit social enterprise model really aligns well both with our own mission to benefit community based healthcare but also to seek a sustainable basis on which to grow the Simple Measures™ approach."

The core of the system is to provide carers anywhere with a Simple, practical, training session enabling them to effectively use the Simple Measures™ Reliance On a Carer assessment and monitoring tools.  This also highlights the use of for example the already successful Simple Measures mug supplied in collaboration with Dudson Ltd, available on the NHS Supply chain and via Alliance national directly.

Naomi says "we are here to be the go to resource for practical support to carers regarding optimum hydration, the clinical and economic cost to care system is acknowledged to be significant, getting areal grip on the real costs is one of many streamsof work we have in the pipeline with our collaborators."
