Commercial partner secured for Poole NHS Trust novel radiology test tool, DENTEST™

Poole NHS Trust logoNISW recently helped Poole Hospital NHS Foundation Trust to find a commercial partner to market a novel radiology test tool, DENTEST™, which was developed by the Trust's medical physics department and is used by dental practices across Dorset to assess the quality of clinical dental images.

The global dental imaging market is worth £1.6bn annually.  Dental practices are required to regularly monitor all X-Ray equipment using an appropriate 'test object', but those currently available are cumbersome, costly and complicated to use, and typically only work for one type of imaging format.  DENTEST™, on the other hand, is a quick, easy to use and affordable QC test object, suitable for use with all imaging formats and is fully compliant with relevant dental regulations.

NISW was able to identify a number of potential commercial partners to market DENTEST™ more widely and then successfully facilitated a global licensing agreement with Leeds Test Objects, a leading UK manufacturer of medical X-ray test objects.

Under the terms of the agreement Leeds Test Objects will manufacture and market DENTEST™ in the UK and internationally through its network of specialist distributors.  The device has already been exhibited in North America, Europe and the Middle East and first orders have been placed.  Further collaboration is now planned between Poole Trust and Leeds Test Objects.
